Youth and Family Minister Job Description
Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Illinois, is seeking a full-time youth and family minister who will work under the oversight of the congregation’s elders. This individual will lead and shepherd our youth (Birth–12th grade) and their families in growing deeper in faith, discipleship, and love and service toward others
This full-time ministry position involves mentoring, teaching, and providing guidance to our youth, as well as organizing programs that foster their faith and encourage community involvement. The Youth and Family Minister is essential in creating a strong sense of community and belonging for young people within our congregation.
Key Responsibilities:
Spiritual Guidance and Faith Formation
Helping young people deepen their faith through activities like Bible studies, prayer groups, and faith-based discussions, with the goal of building a strong faith foundation and a personal relationship with God.
Program Development and Implementation
Planning and leading youth group meetings, Sunday morning programs for youth and children, retreats, service projects, and other events to actively involve young people and build community.
Mentorship and Leadership
Serving as a positive mentor and role model, offering guidance and support as young people navigate the challenges of life, and helping them realize their potential and live a purposeful life.
Family Engagement
Collaborating with parents and families to support the overall well-being of young people, including providing helpful resources and information (e.g., training on child-rearing); involving parents with children’s spiritual growth. Encouraging intergenerational relationships within the church body.
Communication and Outreach
Maintaining regular communication with youth, parents, and the broader church community to ensure everyone stays informed and involved. Fostering connections among young people and encouraging their participation in church and community activities.
Collaboration
Collaborate with church staff, elders, and volunteers to support church-wide vision and initiatives.
Budget Management
Managing the budget for youth and family programs responsibly.
Safety and Well-being
Ensuring the safety and well-being of all youth and families by implementing appropriate policies and procedures.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Education
A Bachelor's degree in theology, Bible, ministry, or a related field preferred. Applicants with significant experience in youth and family ministry also may be considered.
Experience
Demonstrated experience in youth ministry, teaching, or working effectively with young people.
Skills
Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, and leadership abilities. Ability to connect with, build rapport with, and relate well to youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
Character
A deep commitment to personal spiritual growth in Christ, along with the ability to serve as a positive example for all members of our congregation, especially the youth.
