Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Northside

We are the Northside Church. We desire to LOVE GOD with all our hearts, LOVE OTHERS as Christ loves us and SERVE THE WORLD through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are a community of believers seeking authentic relationships with Christ and one another. We worship, fellowship, and study to develop greater intimacy with our Creator and his creation. We are a healing church reaching out in Christ’s love to serve those in need. We welcome all to worship, study, praise and serve God with us.

 What should I expect?

We confess that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. We celebrate the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper. We give praise through singing, prayer and fellowship.  We practice giving and sharing through a weekly offering to support the work of the church.

 Do you have childcare?

Children’s classes are held Sunday and Wednesday and are taught by Northside members. There are also Sunday Children’s Worship services for Pre K – 4th grade.  A well-equipped nursery provides infants and toddlers a nurturing environment to play and interact. Our goal is to provide children with an activity based Christian curriculum of study so they may gain a greater understanding, appreciation, and love for God and his Word. Just as children grow physically, they also have different spiritual developmental stages, and our leadership team is committed to providing various opportunities for children to experience the love of Christ as they move towards adolescence.

 What should I wear?

Our church has a casual and informal style so you can come as you are.

 What time do you meet?

Our service times are Sunday at 9:30 A.M. for Adult and Children Bible Classes and 10:30 A.M. for Worship.  We also meet on Wednesday evening from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 PM for Adult, Teen, Jr. High, and children classes. The nursery is available both Sundays and Wednesdays.

 What do you believe?

We are all sinners who are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, as we yield our lives in obedience to God. A Christian is an immersed (baptized) believer who seeks to love God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength; to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and be devoted to one another in a unified spirit and purpose. The Bible is the inspired word of God. Each member is encouraged to study the Bible, individually and with one another, so they may be able to discern God's will for their lives. All Christians are called to worship, prayer, giving, communion, bible study, fellowship, and ministry to others.

What is your mission?

We desire to LOVE GOD with all our hearts, LOVE OTHERS as Christ loves us and SERVE THE WORLD through the power of the Holy Spirit.

What is your vision?

As fully devoted and convicted followers of Jesus Christ we  want to be a church where God is loved passionately, others are loved practically and the world is served compassionately.

What is your foundation?

One God and Creator of all. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We were made in God’s image, yet we have all sinned. Jesus is the Christ, sent from the Father. Jesus atoned for our sins on the cross. He died on the cross, but was risen and will never die again. The Holy Spirit, sent from the Father and Son, is our helper and guide for our Christian life. We are called to a relationship with God through Christ.

What is your history?

Northside Church was founded April 17, 1983.  With its early beginnings as a campus ministry, Larry Sharp served as Campus Minister and Evangelist. Other staff members over the years have been: Craig and Loretta Morgan, Doug and Charlene Hurley, serving as campus ministers; Gary Gawlick, Mark Moore, Jarrod Longbons and Clint Dickson serving as youth ministers. The original congregation of 61 met at 98 West Mulberry St. near Illinois State University. The congregation outgrew its small building and began meeting at various auditoriums on the ISU campus through the 80’s and early 90’s. Our current facility was completed in 1996.
